LaRita added the moniker “Jazzy Rita” as a pet name for her jazzy side, which is in addition to her career as an actress, author, digital media, marketing & branding consultant. Rita is a former broadcaster for Armed Forces Radio and Lee Bailey’s Radioscope and she was also a voice actress on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Shelby has also been heard on WDIA, KPYA, NPR and PBS. Jazzy Rita is preparing her launch into screenwriting and producing. She currently has five screenplays in development. Jazzy Rita’s Christmas wish is that her radio colleagues will embrace this song and spread it all over the airwaves this holiday season.

Call it serendipity. LaRita Shelby, goes by Jazzy Rita in the jazz world and she is the daughter of gospel musician Florence Hawkins. She has been singing since the age of six. She found her true gift and passion for jazz music in the past ten years. In fact it was LA Times jazz critic Don Heckman who predicted that Miss Shelby was ready for prime time when he attended the first and second Annual Starlight Jazz Serenade benefit concerts.
Jazzy Rita is warm and witty in her performance and sultry in her style. Rita is formerly an international radio personality, a speaker, a journalist and a devoted mom who believes in love, miracles and the power of jazz.
